Spoilers for previous books in the series
Paint It All Red by S. T. Abby is the perfect conclusion to her Mindf*ck series. This book soars at keeping the ending satisfying and true to the characters and plot.
The emotional impact in this conclusion isn’t as jolting as it was in the previous book, which is the only reason I knocked half a star. And honestly, it makes sense. The previous book had the revelation, had that hard hitting emotional impact that I still haven’t gotten over. Yes, we pick right up after that, but I will not get over that ending seen between Logan and Lana in book 4, though Logan’s realization on how fucked up he was comes close.
The emotional hits do continue in book 5, just with less of a shock. It feels much more resigned. Everything is out in the open. The tension of Lana’s secret is gone and now we just have to work with the tension of what Logan will do and will Lana survive.
Jake is literally just the best. I love him and honestly, was secretly hoping for what happened to happen so when it happened, I was beyond giddy. It felt like all my hopes for how this would end were coming true.
The climax of Lana and Jake’s revenge is interesting. I honestly felt more satisfaction from Kyle’s death than anything else. So it was merely a matter of checking boxes to see the endgame come to fruition.
This is going to be a series that I absolutely will be hard copies of because it was just that damn good. Obviously, I’m going to recommend Paint It All Read by S. T. Abby if you’ve gotten this far into the Mindf*ck series. I’m probably going to re-read this again soon because yes, it was that damn good.
