King of Wrath by Ava Huang is something that has been on my radar for a bit but I never really felt compelled enough to pick it up. Well, after struggling to finish another book, I finally decided to give this a go and I really liked it! It was quick, easy to read, and enjoyable!
Dante and Vivian were good together and really likeable characters. Vivian, though a pushover to her family due to cultural reasons, doesn’t simply fold for Dante. Dante, ruthless in all that he does, doesn’t hold back just because he is falling for Vivian. They stay true to themselves which is SO refreshing in romances. I loved how their relationship wasn’t just instalove. They worked for it. Vivian insists on them getting to know one another and so when things unfold, it makes sense. It feels genuine and real and hot.
Pacing was steady and we do get that third act obstacle, which I know some folks hate but I actually really like? It feels more realistic than ending on a happily forever after despite being together, openly in love and for real together, for a few months.
Only three stars because it was a good read, flowed well, enjoyed the characters, but I wasn’t IN love with the book. It didn’t leave me wanting to instantly re-read it. It simply was.
I think King of Wrath by Ana Huang is a dark romance I would recommend because it is a decent story and romance but also opens up the door to future books in the series, including the next one featuring Kai, whom I loved as a side character.
